I just launched a network that revolves around sensitive medical information. And for that purpose users need the ability to keep all information private except to those they choose or add as a friend. “Im thinking social networking basics here.”

Either I’m completely stupid or it’s completely missing. I’ve installed some plugin’s that allow for some fields to be private, but not the entire user profile and feeds. I can’t believe I missed this, and we just went live and EVERYTHING is visible.

I need to be able to allow for public sign up, but keep profiles and all user info private unless the user chooses to share their profile with a friend. Is this possible?

I’ve tried the plugin that supposed to keep everything but selected pages private, but that doesn’t even work. Do I need to take this offline, or is there a solution?

Yeah, we know. @jeffsayre‘s been working on a plugin to address this critical hole in BP. During the developer chat today Jeff guestimated that after 1.2.6 makes it out the door the BP Privacy will make it’s appearance about a week later.

So in short, there’s no fast fix. Personally I’d recommend either warning people to use the site at their own risk or to take it offline. I know what it’s like, my community has been stalled for the last few months waiting for a Privacy plugin before we go on a recruiting push.

Is the plugin compatible to wp 3.0.1 and new buddypress?
